Stranger is the default name
You do not pick a handle to be allowed in. If you never set a nickname, the other person’s header says Stranger, and yours says that to them.
The link has a code. A badge stays on the visitor's device if they start a chat. We don't store who invited whom.
Where a nickname lives
It is saved in the browser with an optional avatar. It is not a unique login, and two people can type the same word. Clearing site data clears it. It is not looked up from an address book.
What else can be on the card
Only if you opt in: a country and one interest hint. The checkbox starts off. The match reveal says when no hint was shared. Nothing is filled in from your location.
The word is not a promise
“Stranger” means you have not both chosen to identify yourselves. It is not a badge of safety, and it is not a reason to share more than you mean to. Leave when you want.
Questions
Can they see my real name?
Only if you type it. The site does not ask for one.
Do I have to set an avatar?
No. The header can show an initial or a generic mark.
